Sustainability in the office. A new way of working?

The sustainability agenda has been a hot topic for quite some time. Lockdown safety measures imposed across the world have shown us how quickly nations can adapt in extreme circumstances, from our way of life to the ways in which we work.

As we emerge into a so-called new-normal, it is vital that sustainable practices are part of this change. Businesses have a significant role to play here; a responsibility to encourage environmental awareness by promoting recycling, less printing and smart energy saving systems like automated lighting.

But there’s more that can be done. Take for instance, a reduction in air pollution because of less traffic on the roads. All achieved because of the emerging hybrid model, where a business embraces flexibile working.

What if businesses reimagined their working spaces too? Like an office with sustainable interiors, from re-purposed and recycled furniture through to living plants that purify the air, creating an environment that enhances the health and wellbeing of its employees.

Brands across the world are under increasing pressure to become more sustainable as the world demands an eco-friendlier way of life. Sustainable business practices to date in the likes of the ISO1400 accreditation are certainly a step in the right direction, but so much more needs to be done.

Reimagining our relationship with the planet is to imagine a good future where the threat of climate change no longer lurks around the corner. It calls for creative thinking, to help us break our hard-wired consumption habits and become more conscious of how our everyday actions effect the world that we live in, even in business.

Impact offices are built to make a positive impact on the world, by considering the environment, embracing social cohesion and fostering a safe environment which promotes and encourages the wellbeing of its occupants. They allow occupiers to adapt these values as part of their own brand, allowing them to promote and feel good about the spaces they work in.
